Is anyone using the early 2008 mac pro with there smoke on mac?

I'm having major playback issues on mine. Like I can not play anything back without the GFX card dropping frames. The Storage is rock solid and in debug mode I can see it's the video board. When the gfx card does not drop frames the audio does not stay in sync. It drifts further out as the timeline plays. This is soft imported HD or 2k dpx frames or hard imported media. Makes no difference.

Using final cut pro on the same system works just fine.Same media, drives, same everything. I have had a case open with autodesk since april and no word on any fix. They don't give me any answers. Just keep asking me for logs. How many logs does it take?

I've asked autodesk to tell me if anyone they know is using this model mac pro. They have yet to answer that question. It just gets ignored. AJA seems to think is is a bus issue not being fast enough. But this is an approved system according to autodesk.

Let me be clear, the 2 grand a year in fees autodesk is not for support, Its for upgrades. They are not helping me very much at all. And now my shop is making more money with FCP and Color than a smoke.

My system is a

2008 Mac pro 2x2.8 quad core
16GB of ram
FX4800 Video card
Kona 3 card with 8.0 driver
Cal digit HDpro2 raid getting 700MB a sec.
Smoke 2011 sp3

Any Ideas or decent offers on a smoke license are welcome.

Thanks Nick, this has been the first I have heard of any real testimonials about SMOKE for MAC, I have been waiting for people really using it to get feedback, but its hard because its such a small user base.

Do you know Barry Goch and the LA smoke user group?
http://groups.google.com/group/smoke-on-mac

That would be the first place I check.

Just out of curiosity, is this something that just started happening with the recent SP3 update and Kona3 8.0 Update?

Its all started with 2011. 2010 did not do this.

Sorry I am on Linux. But I see your thread on smoke-news. I will also say that support does do a good job, and hopefully will find a solution for you.

Hey Nick, can you keep an update to your quest for an answer, I have a few MacPro 3,1 stations and I was thinking about converting one to a SMOKE for OS X station and now I am not sure if I should.

Just let us know if you where ever able to fix your problem?

Thanks a Bunch.

not fixed yet. Autodesk is trying to figure it out. I would say use a 4.1 mac or better

Hi Nick,

I have experiened a similar problem using Mac OSX 2011. ext1. I wondered if you had any success in resolving the issue on your system.
