opening older smoke archives....
on Jan 26, 2010 at 1:16:02 am

I have lots of old smoke* 3.6.1 archives on digital betacam tapes.

I still have my old SGI Octane system in case someone needs to look
at an archive.

can smoke on the mac open an archive?

that would be kinda cool if it did and I don't see any
reason why it shouldn't. The stills and video is stored
on tape as is and the audio as data (snowy tv video signal)

Hi

Smoke on Mac only supports file based archives.

I can remember if Smoke 3.6.1 support file based archiving too. If the answer is yes, then you restore your tape archive to your smoke and re-archive it as a file based archive.

I have no idea if it will restore in Smoke on Mac but it is certainly worth a try. I have managed to open a Smoke 6.5 file archive and restore it...

Give it a go if its possible and let us know.

Thanks

Regards
Grant

interesting.

I'm fairly certain it was tape only for archiving on that version.
