I only recently noticed that Fire is no longer in the line up over at Autodesk. Is it that the Fire features have come down to the smoke ? and why was it EOL'd ? was it cannibalizing Flame & Infernos markets ?

Well i hope the features came down and then ported to the MAC

Fire died with the Unix platform. As far as I know all features from the Fire are in the Smoke.

Thanks Moody:

Was curious to find that out.
I think i now have a clearer picture as to how Autodesks software plans are for the future. Guess i will have to shell out 15k to get smoke and do away with combustion next year. a Major step up

I'm in the exact same situation as you. It's clear now that Combustion is a dead product, but with Smoke coming out on the Mac, I'm so happy that I don't even care. Sure it's a big investment, but the benefits are huge to anyone who used a Final Cut Pro/Combustion workflow.

One thing I'm really looking forward to is no more cached RAM previews. Once something is rendered, it's played back in realtime directly from disk - a feature that Combustion (or AE) never had. Being able to see VFX shots played back immediately in realtime in the context of the entire edit is invaluable.

My only gripe is those AE plugins (that arent sparks yet)will still have to be used with AE or Motion so we may still have to go out for a couple things but not many. But what is the price of Genarts saphirre sparks for Autodesk? I know it's about 1600USD foe the AE version but dont know about the sparks.
