Smoke 2010 on Mac is amazing. For around 35K for Smoke on Mac. 55K with additional FCP/CS4/30" Monitor. I hope it changes this South Florida market, which is mainly Avid and migrating more and more to FCP. With this though, hopefully some business will go to Smoke/Mac !!

All that's needed now is to get some third party ppl like JL cooper, Tangent, Euphonix etc to make controllers for the smoke and its all over

Patrick,

The presentation was good and I'm glad to have met you and others. I was wondering why the price point of Smoke with FCS/Adobe would be around 55k?

[Andrae Palmer] "I was wondering why the price point of Smoke with FCS/Adobe would be around 55k? "

He's probably including the Smoke software and all of the required hardware including an 8-core Mac Pro, fast RAID, Kona 3, nVidia Quadro FX 4800, Wacom tablet and proper broadcast monitor. You can spend quite a bit on storage, as well as an HD broadcast monitor.

Trying to find an explicit list of system requirements. Anyone found them yet?

From what I've gathered: Snow Leopard, a 3,1 MacPro or better, and Nvidia Quadra?

Thanks. That clears up all my questions. I assume MacPro 2008 is the 3,1 revision.

the weird thing is that the fx 4800 says it needs a 2009 mac pro. But the smoke requirement is a 2008 or up?

Apple says the same thing about the Radeon HD 4870, but it runs just fine in my 2007 Mac Pro. I bought it as an upgrade last year and I've had no issues using it. I'm sure someone out there can offer a field report on the real-world compatibility of the Quadro FX 4800 on something earlier than a 2009 Mac Pro...

Do you have to boot into 64 bit kernel for the trial version to work?

Yes. Smoke 2010 on Mac OS X requires a 64 bit kernel to operate. The full 64 bit capabilities of Snow Leopard is what finally made Smoke on Mac possible. Autodesk was developing Smoke on Mac while Apple was beta testing Snow Leopard.
