Tracking + Emitter?
on Mar 26, 2009 at 10:29:24 pm

Hey everyone,

Just started using Smoke, and i'm trying to figure out limitations for some upcoming projects, and a little unsure about tracknig/emitting effects.

For one of the projects, i'm trying to have talent write light text on a screen, in a similar way to how it's done in the Sprint commercials with the stop motion shots, but in the post world.

i was wondering if there is a way in Smoke to track a point and have it create a path behind itself, so that what the talent writes appears? Preferably without having to go frame by frame.

Thanks for your help!

matt

You can use auto paint. Pretty handy little tool. Record your pen strokes and process them onto your clip.

Hi,
Use autopaint to track your hand then apply it with a thin brush (use a low amount of RATE).
Then take this into OPTICS, use the default setting but increase NOISE to 100 and you prbably need to make the size smaller. You can also use the RANDOM option. It should give you a ligh paint streak effect.
Regards,
Steve

One last question, is there a way to paint with a tracker, leaving a path behind it?

Another way to do this is to use the tracker and match the motion you want. Create a dot over black that uses that track. Then feed it into a feedback spark, such as sapphire. This would give you control over size, length, etc. Then optics would give you a cool look.
