Editing suite dilemma? any takers?
on Nov 8, 2006 at 6:37:54 am

I'm using Combustion right now...and I LOVE it!!! However, I actually hate
the editor on it, I guess Smoke is meant to be the editor like AE or FCP.
But I dont have a Mac and I dont have 50,000 bucks to buy Smoke, so is
there an alternative editing suite that interacts well with Combustion.

The reason why...is my film footage that I receive back from telecining
house uses Blackmagic and the files I get seem to look KILLER inside
Combustion, but LOUSY!!! if I import into Premiere Pro.

I've never tried AE yet, any takers on this predicament???

anything would be helpful I think.
thanks,
seth

Um, how about Discreet Edit? (ducks as angry abandoned Edit users throw furniture and rotten vegetables)

AE is not an editor. It is Adobe's Combustion. It's a compositor. On windows I would imagine that AVID or Premiere is your best bet. Combustion also isn't and editor.

What are your blackmagic files coming to you as? QT? File Seq?

Hi Seth,

it looks like you may be pretty much stuck with premiere. Avid is, by a street, the best editor on windows, but you won't get an uncompressed HD solution from them without spending serious money. There are other solutions on the market, such as media 100 and Incite but I don't really know enough about them to comment, although I have heard fairly good things about the later. The more time goes on the more apparent it becomes that killing Edit* was utter folly.

I'm not that familiar with premiere but it seems to me that there must be some kind of i/o or monitoring issue if your material looks that bad.

Have you tried installing Blackmagic codecs. That should solve the problem that you are have with the video quality.
