smoke archive conversion for final cut pro
on Oct 27, 2006 at 11:08:05 pm

Does anyone here in the smoke* community know of a service or post house that offers conversion of smoke archive assets to external firewire drives in quicktime format and still images so they could potentially be used in Final Cut Pro or other NLE's?

could somebody with xstoner merely restore the archive and copy the contents of the stone via xstoner to a firewire disk?

Are there other options?

thanks for the effort.

Using Xstoner (or some new Wiretap apps) will do what you want. You would have to restore the archive on your smoke, and then you can select which clips you want to have in your firewire disk, and just save them wherever you want.

Thanks Arturo, can you tell me more about "wiretap" apps?

I thought Xstoner was the only product that could do that.

Okay, for some strange reason if i post links to outside pages they won't let the post go through. So ill just type the names for the wiretap software so you're able to google them up, sorry.

These new products use the Wiretap SDK, and were recently announced on IBC:

OnTap from Karbonized Software
StoneGate from Tiger Technology
eyeon Conection from eyeon (will let Fusion see the stones directly)
C>me

Additionally you have to remember that combustion 4 already lets you see the stones directly using Wiretap

Thanks for the info.

Do you know anyone in North America that has these stone access systems and a smoke?

we're looking for a long-term relationship, should any of our past client jobs
need restoration, we want the smoke archives restored to firewire drives so they can
be edited in FCP or Avid systems.

The whole Wiretap thing is still fairly new, so im not sure who might be using it.

Regarding Xstoner probably almost anybody that has a Maximum Throughput Sledghammer will have some Xstoner working there.
