FCP EDL transfer into Smoke??
on Apr 6, 2005 at 11:52:40 pm

Hey guys,

Just wondering if you could help me on this one.

Im trying to import an Final Cut Pro EDL ( CMX 3600) into smoke.
Its imported the clips individually into the source bin rather than importing it as a sequence on the timeline and its ignoring the effects that were done on FCP.

I was just wondering if im importing it wrongly, or a button i forgot to push , or is there something wrong with the edl.

thanks!

Don't know about the source bin thing, but all effects will be ignored. That is normal.

once the material has been imported you have to assemble the edl !!
effects are not supported in edl format.

in the edl module under the preview window is a button called "Make Record". That will assemble the timeline. Then below that press the "Copy to Library" button and in the library you'll find the clip with the edl name. That is your assemble timeline.

Smoke 6.7 that's just announced has XML import from FCP. So now you need not use EDL. XML will carry some (not all) of the effects you did in FCP. More than an EDL at any rate.
