I have a client who has been renting a Barco Screen Pro II for their live events in order to run a Macbook Pro with a powerpoint presentation to a projector during their events. They have a second backup laptop for emergencies, but they largely use the primary computer and the "freeze screen" function to edit the presentation on the fly if they have to make changes to the powerpoint (e.g. a new attendee is added to a panel or they want to include quotations from speakers in the slides between presentations).
They've had a lot of problems with their presentations thanks to some obstinacy between the switcher/laptop/projector, lip flap on embedded videos in the powerpoint, strange color/resolution on videos, etc. In addition to all of that, the Barco switcher seems like massive overkill in terms of a device to run a powerpoint presentation to a projector.
Could anyone recommend something a little simpler in terms of a switcher that is a somewhere in the $5000 range? Ideally, it'd be great to have something that has the same "freeze screen" function that the Barco has, since that's what the client is used to, but given that they'll have two laptops running the presentations, it's not vital. What is totally imperative though, is that the switching between the two laptops doesn't include blue screen or black screen delays.
I'm not sure that it's possible to buy something like this within our budget, but I feel like there's an awful lot waste in the setup as we currently have it, and would love a simpler production.
