I have noticed it the past couple of years, but this past week it really bothered me. I know it's live so they can't color correct it afterwards, but can't they just adjust their cameras to expose properly? Here is an extreme example. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/michael-jordans-wedding/n36359...

while I have no working knowledge of the SNL broadcast, my best guess based off my experience is the lighting designers don't have enough time in a week to sett perfectly balanced intensity for all of the various skits so the VC engineers decided to expose the cameras for skin tone, not caring to much about highlights.

just a guess though

Theater lighting vs Television lighting.

New lighting director?

If it moves . . . Shoot it!
