Projecting 4x3 SD letterboxed

I'm going to be projecting a two hour movie from a PowerMac G4 using a NEC NP 2000. The film was shot in SD 4X3 letterboxed. Is there anyway to project it in 16x9 without affecting quality?

Also, should i use a DVD instead of QuickTime? Would I get inferior quality, or would the QT have jumps and processing problems? Would I fair better if I added hardware to the computer?

Any advice?

Your projector is also 4:3, right? If so, you can just project it as-is.

This projector seems to be an office projector, not any kind of cinema projector. You will probably want to test with it before you screen, so you'll get an idea as to what the brightness and color rendition will be like.

A G4 could still be fine to use to play out to the projector, especially if you use an "easy" codec like DV and export the movie to a single, self-contained Quicktime file. A DVD player might be less likely to crash during your screening, though.

Why not lay it down to good old tape . I would be hesitant to do live play back from a computer.. Sometimes the old ways are best :)
