VFX Help? -- creating hanging shapes blowing in wind

Using: Vegas 14 and Boris FX
<a href="https://images.creativecow.net/200289/aotb_diamonds.png"><img src="https://i1.creativecow.net/u/200289/aotb_diamonds.png" border="0" /></a>

The goal:
Have each of these diamonds appear to be suspended by a string from above, and apply a wind effect so they spin a little and blow forward and back in 3-d space -- ideally, interacting with each other if they bump into each other.

Assumptions:
We can assume I can break the graphic as needed into the individual diamonds, and can convert it to a vector graphic via Illustrator if needed. (and at minimum make it a transparent .PNG)

BONUS Goal:
The background will be a beach.. it'd be lovely to add sand blowing around by the wind, and have that sand "gather" on top of the diamonds, or adhere to them.

My experience -- pretty high with Vegas -- I can manually animate and it'd be a royal PIA... I'd love it there was a combination of Boris FX that could help with this (and do a better job than I would manually). What I've done with Boris is limited and variants of trainings I've found online (thanks John F!).

Thoughts? Ideas?

:-)

Hi,

I haven't viewed the images that you sent along as for some reason I couldn't see them in your post, but I can tell you that if you have BCC Title Studio installed in Vegas 14 you can generate 2D / 3D objects that appear to ripple back and forth in the wind by applying the Ripple Z Rings deformer shader to the scene or to the individual objects in the scene. If you are unfamiliar with using Title Studio there are plenty of on-line tutorials on the BorisFX site that should guide you through the process.

Cheers,

Peter.

Rippling will be a good start to creating the effect.

Since we want each of these 4 diamond shapes to be suspended by a string, they'll spin a bit.. and sway along the Z and X (rotating the Z and X).. and if they bump into each other, should react appropriately.

I haven't played around at all with object interaction in Boris.. does it have that kind of thing? Are there any instructionals out there?

Unfortunately automated object interaction is not an option in anywhere inside of the Boris FX toolkit and this kind of animation must be done via manual keyframing. The spin etc is possible though - there's even a jitter function that can automate this for you.
