NTSC SD 4:3 to BD 16:9

Hello,

I need to convert NTSC videos from SD 4:3 to 16:9 for a Blu-ray project.
I have AVI files 576x432 and resized them to 1440x1080, is this correct? Or shall I render my videos to 1920x1080? It causes a pillarbox effect anyway, and that's fine.

Also I'd like to believe the pixel aspect ratio and the frame rate doesn't have to change.
The files has square pixel aspect ratio and 29.97fps. Or should I change them to 23.976fps?

Last but not least, I did some motions menus with AE. Does the render setting H.264 works well for BD? Or is it better to render a MOV and encode it with Compressor?

Thanks!

Go with the 1920x1080 and the pillar box. That way you don't lose any of your image or distort it by changing the ratio. Also, leave the frame rate at 29.97. You may cause some audio problems if the frame rate is not altered properly. Best to leave it alone.

Someone else will have to comment on H.264 vs. .mov, I haven't done any comparisons.

Joe

This makes no sense. Your source is SD. Uprezzing will not improve quality but make it worse

Dear Eric, I know :(
I have told my client a thousand times but they want to release Blu-ray.
So I'm making magic here.

Wow! That's messed up on several levels.

Good luck
