DVD created with 24fps but the output is 29.97?
on Sep 21, 2015 at 8:09:28 pm

Hello!

I'm pretty new to Encore. I only know how to do the basic functions. I made a DVD where the footage was 24fps and I went through all the settings to get the correct frame rate. I tested it on my Xbox One and the info pane said it was playing at 29.97 fps. Any idea on what might have happened? I feel like I'm missing something simple but I can't quite figure out what it is. ANY help would be appreciated!

Hey Bob,
29.98fps is correct, as DVD could only handle 25fps (PAL) or 29.98fps (NTSC) by spec.

if you record at 23.98fps your video will be converted to 29.98 with the same duration, but only will have an added pulldown, or I would call it a "pullup", meaning nearly every 6 frames will be added 1 single frame, to fit in the 29.98fps. one frame will be doubled.

that´s the whole story.

I think I'm starting to understand. So, it's basically a normal occurrence for DVD? Is Blu-Ray the same?

Hey Bob,
yes it´s a normal accurance.

Blu-ray is a different but better story, as most (but not all) new framerates could be used.

BD-spec could handle: 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080i29.98. IF your based in europe or down under 1080i50 also is possible.

BD-spec does not support 1080p60 or 1080p50!
