DVD burning question
on Jan 24, 2014 at 10:22:40 pm

I'm burning 1080i footage to DVDs with Encore. When it transcodes it down to 720x540 or whatever, will it screw up the fields and create a weird looking picture?. I ask because, if I need to resize interlaced footage, my normal workflow is to do a deinterlacing pass first, then do the resizing pass, otherwise it gets screwed up if you just try to resize interlaced footage.

Best regards,

Kevin Camin

Kevin,
as long your transcoding-setting fits to the source, everything will be fine.

1080i is upper field first, ntsc normaly is lower first, but in your case you need to take care that your SD-transcoding-setting is upper field, too.

cheers

Thanks. But if I encode a DVD with upper fields first in the US rather than lower fields won't hat playback janky on a DVD player?

NO - important is to use same field-order as the source-material.
