SWF export with subtitles - not WYSIWYG and very low Q titles
on Jun 1, 2012 at 1:42:20 pm

Hello guys

I have found Encore seems to be a good way to lay multiple language tracks to a web video by exporting to SWF.

Great...

But the quality of the subtitles is bad at smaller dimensions, and if you export a full 720p sized image, the fonts are way smaller than they are in Encore and they lose their stroke setting.

Anyone know how to make this work properly? Your help much appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark.

It's best to use Flash if you'd like to make a Flash project. Lots of bugs in Encore

Are you using the "export subtitles as text only" option? Don't and see if that helps. If you don't use the text only option, the subtitles should display using images.

Hi Eric and Stan, thanks for the responses!

Yes, I was using text only, I had tried images, and it looked very ropey, so I thought that text only would be smoother... but it just made the text much smaller.

Is there any way to get better quality text?

Flash itself is WAY beyond my skills unfortunately!

Mark.

Hi Mark ,

You can customize Text subtitles from Theme.xml file. Theme.xml file is placed with output folder .

I hope this will help.

Thanks

Hi Minu,

Thanks, I just tried that, and found I could change the font size/type/colour, but not the position or quality.

It is still very dodgy quality-wise, very pixellated, I don't know why as it is coming from the system and is not encoded into the picture.

Also the image is 16x9 and the position of the subtitle is halfway over the bottom edge of frame, so part of the text is over the image, part over the black background, and that looks ugly.

Pity though, this may have been a really good solution to CC's on a NON YouTube website-based video.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hi Mark ,

There are two workarounds to solve your problem of text subtitle location :

1. You can shift your subtitles down in encore by selecting the selection tool .

OR

2. After you have build to flash you can open XXX _subtitle.xml and edit clip position(X,Y clip height , width)

Thanks
Minu
