Purchasing a Blue ray burner ...recommendations?
on Mar 12, 2012 at 3:46:35 pm

I'm slowly but surely building our motion graphics and animation services at the agency I currently work for.

I hit a real wall last week when a client wanted us to provide them with a DVD for their corporate headquarters lobby. It's extremely high-vis for us, and now we're looking to purchase a blue ray burner.

I have one shot here to provide our purchasing agent with some specs-direction, otherwise he's going to pick based on price alone.

I'm working on a MacPro 2010 tower, and the decision to go with an internal burner vs. and external burner is still on the table.

The only limitations I can see are the available external ports on this tower... Firewire 800 and USB 2.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

We have an internal Pioneer BDR 206D with a Mac Pro tower at work and it's problematic. Sometimes Snow Leopard won't recognize it until it's rebooted. So don't buy that one.

FW 800 seems overkill for an optical drive
