Hi everyone,

I've encoded a timeline from Premiere Cs5, to MPEG2 DVD. The footage is originally 1920 x 1080 but I've tried exporting it both as HD & SD with the same issue. I'm running a Mac OS X and authoring with Encore Cs5.

Basically any footage I import has vertical letterboxes on the side. Even if I change the pixel ratio during export (tested both 1:1 & Widescreen) the issue remains.

Any help would be appreciated,

Ryan

Have you tried letting Encore transcode and right clicking the asset, try or look at "Interpret Footage As" options?

I'll give that a go right now.

Thanks Ricky

I've been having the exact same problem!

I can't do anything to fix it, and it's making DVDs non-presentable to clients!

Have you had any luck in fixing it?

I never had this in CS3, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Hi Tom,

No I haven't been able to fix it either. I'm trying endless combinations. I'll let you know if I get anywhere - please do the same!

Ryan

I didnt have the problem in CS3... I'm guessing the method of encoding has changed with Media encoder CS5.

Everytime I export as an SD/Widescreen .m2v MPEG2 file, rather than HD WS MPEG2, it produces those vertical black strips.

I'm about to try Blu-ray m2v to see whether it does it there too.

Are you exporting PAL or NTSC? I've tried both, but use PAL here in Aus.

Let me know how you're progressing!

By the way, this can't be an isolated issue, I've heard of others having the same thing happen to them...I imagine it simply comes down to the media encoder stuffing up.

Hi Tom,

Problem solved. It appears the best remedy is to crop 13 pixels off the top and bottom of the frame in the export view. Obviously you'll lose some of your screen but it doesn't seem to be particularly visible. Here's a link to my post on the Adobe forums and you can see Ann's response that includes and image of what to do:

Best of luck,

Ryan

This seems to have worked -- nice stuff!

A bit strange that we have crop the image slightly though...
