Encore problem
on Jan 15, 2010 at 7:19:44 pm

Hi,

I'm new to this, only 2nd DVD.

The problem I'm having is 2 fold:-

Using Encore ver 1.00 build up a menu using photoshop imported all the assets,
1) When I tried to preview the video prior to building the DVD, chapters play but there is a wide Yellow strip down the middle of the screen.

2) Ignoring the above I thought I'd try to just build the DVD, it went so far and then stopped telling me that a error had occured, and that's it. Nothing more.

I would like to resolve this as the DVD is for my friend to take back to NZ in 2 weeks time#

Thanks

David

What are the characteristics of the source video assets you are using? Format, codec, frame size, frame rate, PAR, etc.

I'm not too sure if what you ask I'm able to tell you, I'm new but here goes.
Quality High
Aspect ration 16:9
Frame rate 25
Program Sequence Inerlaced
Field order Lower
Bit rate VBR
Encoding pass Two
Target Bitrate 4.00
Max Bit rate 9.0
Min Bitrate 1.5
M frames 3
N Frames 12

Does this mean anything to you?
The video is in avi format

David

Hi Jeff,

Hope you can review the embedded photo.
One onther issue regarding making the DVD I did tr this again today, and it failed when it was part through at a point "building the navigation" what ever this is.

I have asked my friend, who gave me his old version of Pro and Encore which I'm using, he now uses a much new version of both. He told me the version of Prem Pro I have is about 3 yrs old and the same with Encore, but when he used them he had no problems. He can't advise me what is wrong.
Regards
David

Hi Jeff,

Yes the file from Prem is clean and works and displays fine.

I have uninstalled Encore and reloaded it again but still the same problem, were you able to see the screen shot I sent you?

Regards

David

Yes.

Try encoding from Premiere and then importing the encoded file into Encore. Any better?

Hi Jeff,

Did as you suggested, file was clean, but when I imported this into Encore and previewed, same problem yellow line down the middle.

Seems there must be a problem with encore this end.

Back to the drawing board.

OK, so your encoded video is PAL. Is your Encore project PAL? Encore usually defaults to NTSC when starting a new project.

Hi Jeff,

I think I may have resolved the problem, took my video file to a friends who has encore CS3 and loaded onto his PC. It worked, so assume I have a problem with my encore.
Seems time to buy a new Encore and Prem programs.
Haven't yet built the DVD but assume it will work on my friends PC.

Thanks for you help and advice.

David

You gave some detailed information, which is good. Thanks.

I need to ask some more questions, if that's OK.

  • What program did you use to edit the video?
  • You used AVI to export from that program, right? Do you know what codec you used (DV, DivX, Lagarith, HuffYUV, etc.)?
  • The encoding settings you listed above - are they the settings that Encore used to transcode the AVI files?

That enough for now. ;-)

Hi Jeff,

I used Adobe Prem Pro to edit the raw video, then I exported it into Encore using DV (PAL) as I live in the UK.
The setting those used by Encore.

As I have said I'm very new to this and although I'm quite technical video is a very new thing, but I'm willing to learn.

David

The information you've given indicates you did everything right and it should "just work".

Do the AVI files from Premiere play normally (no yellow line) in Windows Media Player?

Can you post a screenshot showing what that yellow line looks like?
