Encore button problem
on Mar 22, 2009 at 5:14:46 pm

Hello,

I'm having a problem in Encore CS4 (on WIndows XP Pro machine) where a button is automatically executing the associated timeline when you arrow back to it AFTER you have already had it selected once before and moved to another button.

Not sure how clear that is, but picture a menu that has a "Play All" button and a "Scene Selection" button. When the first play menu comes up, the Play All button is auto-activated, and the user can use the DVD remote to move over to the scene selection button. While the scene selection button is then highlighted, the user toggles back to the Play all button but does NOT hit enter or play. Yet, even though enter or play was not hit on the DVD remote, just the act of re-selecting it kicks off the video.

Interesting thing is that there are 3 sub menus that are all for scene selections, and they all behave this same way.

I am baffled on how to fix this! Any help would be appreciated.

A few more facts if this helps: all menus are motion menus with vector based buttons created in PS and placed over the words 'play all' and 'scene selection' so that it appears the actual words are being selected. The timelines play fine as a play all and they play fine as selected scenes with overrides.

[Ed Creaden] "...When the first play menu comes up, the Play All button is auto-activated, and the user can use the DVD remote to move over to the scene selection button..."

Check to make sure the your buttons have auto-activate turned OFF. Auto-activate means just that: when they are highlighted, they will automatically activate without having to press enter.

If you turned auto-activate off, and it is still having the same problem, try deleting the menu from the project and then recreate it. Just make sure auto-activate is NOT selected.

Yep - that's it. I was misinterpreting what "autoplay" meant. I was thinking that was how I got it to be the default selection; but now I see it was only doing what I was telling it to do. Thanks very much for the response.
