Maximum movie length for good quality

Hi All, I was wondering what you have found is the maximum length of a DV AVI movie you can "reliably" compress and put on a single layer DVD without getting motion artifacts and other trash. Hour and a half? More? Less?

Thanks!

90 minutes give or take a few. It depends on the footage. High-motion footage or footage with a lot of detail like forests and water surfaces will need higher bit rates which will limit the time available. You could get up to 2 hours for stuff like talking heads.

Thanks Jeff, Do you find that Encore does a good job with auto compression for movies pushing the 90 minute mark or do you figure the bit rate and set it manually?

I've been happy with Encore's performance when Automatic Transcoding is used for projects 90 minutes or less.
