Menus badly pixelated on first loading.....
on Aug 13, 2006 at 3:44:54 am

Here is the problem....
When the DVD first plays the menus look terrible...badly pixelated graphic elements.
After advancing to another part of the DVD and then returning to a menu it looks great.
I have tried everything I know and still can't resolve the problem.....adjustment layers to control
whites and blacks, blurs on text...
I hope that somebody has some good ideas....this project is due Monday A.M.
Thanks in advance...

1. All menus, or just the first one that is displayed?
2. Upon returning to the menus from later in the disc, are all of the menus in good shape?
3. Is this in Encore's preview only, or on a burned disc?
4. If on a burned disc, what software and hardware DVD players have you tried?
5. What brand of blank media are you using?
6. What burn speed are you using?

I haven't heard of this before, so it may take a bit of digging.

Thanks for the quick response.

1.All Menus so far.....total of 12 menus
2.Yes
3.Not in the preview...only the burned disc
4.Used Nero to burn from an iso.....Toshiba set top
5.Generic...I have used this before with good results
6.4x....for some reason Nero won't allow a 1x speed...it's greyed out.
Will try again to burn at 1X.
I've run up against this before some time back using DVD Studio Pro. Never
figured that one out either.
Hope this gets solved this time.

Thanks again,
Greg....

Greg,

My first concern is the media - it can really have a negative impact on disc performance in a wide variety of players. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are very nearly bullet-proof, and Maxell and TDK are generally very reliable. This is important because burned discs have a lower surface reflectivity than pressed discs, and some players just don't handle anything but flawless media that ia burnt flawlessly.

Test on a software player, too. See what happens.

Rather than Nero, try the freeware ImgBurn or just burn the image from Encore. Unless Nero is "mission-critical" for you for some reason, I recommend getting rid of it altogether. I used to use it (version 5) and have since switched to Gear Pro Professional Edition. There were several reasons that I made the switch, but I haven't looked back. Others still swear by Nero and that's fine for them. The choice is yours.

Hi,
Just downloaded Imgbrn and will try it immediately. I would burn from Encore but I can't get
it to recognize my burner(Pioneer...).
I am off to find some other media...
I will post after I reburn.

Thanks,
Greg...

Hi,
Finally found some Verbatim discs.
Burned ISO image with ImgBurn at 1X.
The results are as follows:
Software playback(Ulead DVD player)....Excellent
Toshiba DVD set top......Better, still not good(probably Toshiba issues)
XBox360.....Excellent
Windows Media Player.....Very Good. Different Computer

Ordered some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's.
Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated.

Greg.....
