"Out Of Memory" / "Runtime Error" - Subtitle Project
on Jul 20, 2006 at 8:02:34 pm

I keep getting these really annoying errors during the burning of my DVD; Either it's "Out Of Memory" or "Runtime Error".
It happens midway during the DVD Build.

Here are the specs of my project:

NTSC 720x480.

2.97 GB Project file size.

12 Still Menus.

9 Timelines ranging from 3-15 minutes in length.
5 of the 9 Timelines have 7 different Subtitles; English, Dutch, French, German, Finnish, Spanish and Hebrew.
The Subtitles are TIF image files that have been created outside Encore in a special subtitling software. Each language image folder comes with an image script.
Everything works great when I import the image scripts and the subtitles for each of my Timelines, but something weird happens during the DVD build.

Any ideas?

TIA,

- Max

Are you using Faux Italics or Faux Bold on these subtitles?

Whoops, nevermind. I forgot you were using TIFF files.

Have you tried doing a SaveAs on the project, and then deleting subtitle tracks and rebuilding, one step at a time?

Nope, but I guess I'll have to, one step at a time...

I'll keep you posted;

Thanks,

Make sure all your timelines have the same number of subtitle and audio tracks. They can be empty, but they should be there. This is a limitation of the multiplexer when it tries to optimize the DVD structure. Unfortunately Encore doesn't spit out a warning unlike e.g. Scenarist does. also make sure that all audio tracks and subtitles are in the exact same order in every timeline and their track ID is set properly.

Thanks for the tips; Yes, I went ahead and try to re-build my whole project from scratch, menu by menu and timeline by timeline (and do a test burn here and there between separate stages), everything was working fine until I hit timline 4 (out of 5 total);
When I try to import one of the subtitle scripts, I get hit with a pop-up dialogue box saying "Out of memory - Save and quite your project or you'll lose everything... blah, blah, blah."

So this is even before I get to try to burn the project.

Yes, I've spent great deal of detail in making sure all timelines has the same subtitle order for all the different languages, etc.
Everything is 'by the books'.

What does the message "Out of memory" in general indicate?
Encore doesn't have some kind of allocated memory thing you can adjust (like Photoshop), right?

I have no other programs running, I'm on XP Pro, 3 GH, and 1 Gigs of RAM.

I'm at a loss here...
