Burn DVd - video has a stutter.
on Mar 23, 2006 at 10:44:24 pm

I have a 24pa project the was cut on an avid in a 23.97 timeline.
I export a QT with sorenson squeeze- best quality.
I tried every combination of transcode obtions in Encore and the video on the final DVD always has a slight stutter whenever there is rapid movement on the screen-
(for instance- a scarf in high wind does not wave and flow smooth like it does when played down through Avid timeline)

When I burn direct to a stand alone DVD player- the motion plays correct.
But I can not create menus.

What am I doing wrong in Encore?

Please help. What are the correct Encore settings for a 13 minute 24 frame project?

thank you

Hey Bokertone,
I feel your pain man. I was about to post the same problem. I've dealt with this problem and my projects are 24p and I edited them in AVID 29.97 NTSC timeline going into Sorensen squeeze, then into Adobe Encore.

I export a quicktime reference from audio and video flattened mixdowns!

And on certain DVD players I get shaky/Jittery video!

Please let me know if you find the answer.

If anyone can help please reply

i can also be reached at questions@setapartpictures.com

Thanks in advance,

M.J.

There must be an answear to this.
I am actually editing in a time 23. timeline- -but the way I understand it- Encore transcodes everything to 29.97 because that's the standard for dvd.
It looks like it's dropping frames- so I figured it must be a "24p" thing.
I tried selecting "progressive" in the pre transcode settings. That did nothing.
The QT's play down fine on the desktop - so I'm sure it's a transcode issue. But like I said- I tried them all (wasted a full days work) and I get the stutter/jitter everytime.
I'm thinking of taking the project over to FCP.

Make sure that your transcode rate is not set too high. I was experiencing issues until I lowered the bit rate. Also remember that you have to leave room for the audio in the bit rate. Try transcoding at around 6mbps with a CBR and see if the issues persist.

Just tried suggestion - CBR 6rate.
Same problem.
Thanks for all the help.
I'm back to burning on a stand alone deck via composite. Motion is smooth and (while not great) the image looks less compressed. The only reason to use Encore was to create a cool menu page.
At the end of the day- I'd rather have a decent looking program- than slick opening graphics.

See, with video I have no issues.
For me it was with After Effects renders. Once I figured out to let Encore do the rendering (Adobe dynamic Link), and once I reduced the bit-rate, well problem solved. Video looks great.

Sorry I couldn't help more,

Adobe Dynamic Link is a component of the Adobe production studio. It is what allows you to work between the various Adobe applications.
