Highest bit rate for standard DVD players?
on Nov 13, 2005 at 7:01:59 pm

Hi There,

Im just encoding part 5 of "Korda's State of the Art Underwater Carp Fishing" (for all you fishermen out there) and this time we are using DVDR9 disks.

The client is persistent on having the highest quality, and I have been experimenting with several 2pass VBR methods, which still only result in around 6.5 gig of the disk used, that was using:

max 9,800 av 7,500 min 6,000 kbps

I wondered, if I used CBR, whats the recommend highest bitrate I should use to be compfortable for standard dvd players.

Thanks for any help in advance.

What is your audio format? If it is mpeg or dolby at what bitrate? Your max 9,800 could be trouble if your audio rate is at a high rate too.

If you want, subtract the audio bitrate from a 9,800 and try that for your CBR. I doubt that there will be much if any visible difference from the VBR you describe.

This title will be replicated from a glass master created from DLT tapes?

Brilliant! I didnt think about checking the audio rate, I was just thinking video alone. I have checked and that was the cause of the problem.

Thanks again :)
