Stutter in Camera Pan when I import QT file
on Oct 24, 2005 at 6:05:49 pm

I have a commercial clip reel I put together in Avid.
One of the clips is a 360 degree Camera move.
(The client tells me the camera move effect was created in post)
I import the file as QT and transcode as I always do.

When I burn the reel down I get a "Stepping, stutter" effect during the 360 Camera Move in this clip.
It's not smooth.

The clip plays down fine in Avid.
All other clips play fine.

I did a test with a stand alone Burner and:
The bad clip plays fine on a DVD I burned to a stand alone DVD burner.
So it seems the problem is with Encore or something I am not doing- but since everything else plays fine and I've never had a problem with Encore- I'm not sure what the problem is.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Can you clarify what this means? Did you burn a video DVD or did you just burn the QT file to a data DVD-ROM?

In any case, a likely cause of your problem is the bitrate you're transcoding the file at. One of the side effects of MPEG encoding is that motion will get stuttery if the bitrate falls too low. Try using a higher bitrate and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I transcoded to the highest allowable setting which I believe was 7mb(?)

I still have the problem.

In your transcoding preset, change the Field Order in the video setting from upper to lower (or from lower to upper) and see if that fixes it.
