Color temperature for EX3 slow shutter night scenes?
on Sep 23, 2013 at 5:44:20 pm

I will be shooting some night scenes without any motion. I am planning to use slow shutter on EX3. What is the best color temperature for a night scene with different lights- street lamps and lights from the windows? I am trying to avoid too much brown and yellow. I understand that my current matrix settings will affect the result too. I can use a profile with neutral settings. Right now my Matrix is the following:

MATRIX
On
High Sat
Level: -2
Phase: +19
R-G: +31
R-B: -23
G-R: -17
G-B: +6
B-R: +6
B-G: +4

I will appreciate any advice on the settings and profiles for night scenes.

I have generally found that a simple K3300 setting gives pretty good night pictures over a fairly large range of colours. As long as you are consistent with your Kelvin setting the footage should look fine. If the light source is from daylight balanced lighting then of course the situation is different.

Michael!

Thank you for your advice! I shot a lot of night footage at K3300 this time. I am happy with the result. Previously I had a tendency to adjust and readjust the number starting from a lower value. The results were inconsistent.
