After days of annoyed trial and error, here's the recipe.

For simple shoots which do not require RAW recording:

Shoot with Sony F55 in MPEG mode. (trust me, it's higher compression but still beautiful)

Copy ENTIRE SXS CARD to safe place. Then backup.

Import SXS card data into Sony Content Browser.

Send to FCPX (you will need to update all software for this to work)

Once in FCPX, navigate to original file, and drag to Compressor, or Adobe Media Encoder.

Convert to ProRes.

Happy Editing.

you can also simply use Content Browser to re-wrap to .mov. while this doesn't convert to ProRes it will get the files into FCP in their native XDCAM codec. there's nothing special about the MPEG HD 50 Mb codec on the F5/F55; it's the same as what has been on the XDCAM and XDCAM EX/UDF hybrid models for some time, so there should be no issues as far as ingest/workflow.

Thanks Ian.

How do you re-wrap?

What menu is that under?

Kindly,
Scott

Hi Scott-

Right/Control click on the clip-->Import Into FCP.

Make sure the Browser prefs are set for the right FCP version (Content Browser menu-->FCP Tab-->Version-->Select FCP 7 or FCP X).

Cheers-

Sorry for the newbie question. I'm testing a single clip shot on F55 using XDCAM 4k to SxS.

I got to the Right Click>Import into FCP part... then got an error saying:

"A clip that cannot be imported into Final Cut Pro is included. There may be no codec for Final Cut Pro. Please confirm the update information of Final Cut Pro."

I have pro-apps codecs loaded. I'm assuming I need a different special codec? Again, I'm sorry for the newbie question.

You currently need to use Resolve or Express Dailies or another system that can take the 4k XAVC and create 1920 Pro Res files. No 4k support in FCP 7, and Browser does not re-wrap XAVC to .mov
