Content Browser 2.0
on Feb 4, 2013 at 5:11:45 pm

JFYI, we recently posted Content Browser 2.0 with support for the new XAVC codecs.

Note that 2.0 has a different activation requirement-- you will need a serial # supplied with the camera or else purchased from the Sony Creative Software storefront. The charge is nominal (20.00, I believe) but still represents a departure from how we have handled the distribution of the Browser software in the past.

We are sorting out the upgrade path and related details. For now, you do not need 2.0 unless you are using an F5 or F55. XDCAM and XDCAM EX users should stick with 1.1, which continues to be available here:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/contentbrowser1

Just to refresh the details on CB 1.1-- The base app is free, with chargeable add-ons for the XDCAM Advanced Pack (live logging and planning metadata support, mostly), NXCAM and the Main Concept encoder plug-in.

Thanks all, feel free to send me any questions or feedback you may have.

I have update from Content Browser 1.1 to Content Browser 2.0 without any problems.
The installer see my Advanced Pack registration and use-it for Content Browser 2.0.
So simple , Content Browser 2.0 register using the Advanced Pack serial number.

I have not test the option but Burn to Blu-ray is now available under Mac OS X and Found This :
if i select a group of clips and select Burn BD with Content Browser 2.0 a new window Pop-Up
and my Pioneer Blu-ray burner internal in my Mac Pro appear with a few options available also.

Question : The video will be Blu-ray using MPEG 4 AVC (H264) but XDCAM HD 422 is MPEG 2
inside MXF wrapper .... do the Content Browser do a conversion because i have the Advanced
Pack but not the Main Concept Conversion Pack .... but Content Browser 2.0 offer the option.

You can use XDCAM Browser or Content Browser. If you use XDCAM Browser try to get up to v2.6.

Ian, off thread I know, but can you please confirm what the current version is with the EX 1 camera? (not the R). I was told today that you have now discontinued the EX 1's, is that so? Is the natural upgrade the PMW 200?

1.30. Yes, replaced by EX1R (PMW-200 and 160 are also close but 160 is 1/3")

Exciting news, hopefully this means we'll soon have our new F55!

Looking for some help !

I have tried to install Content browser 2.0 multiple times today with the free password from sony.

I get the app to install, but it always Hangs after immediately after opening (application not responding).

I had issues with content browser 1.0 where my F3 footage would show up with a black thumbnail with an X on it. so up until now

I have been using xdcam transfer which works fine.

I really would like to figure this out ;)

When I installed content browser 2.0 I did delete XDCAM transfer , still the app hung up after opening

My computer is a 2012 Macbook pro Retina 16gigs ram OS LION 10.8.2

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is this with the free download version (where we email you a serial #)? Otherwise the serials are provided with the F5/F55 cameras. After the promotion runs out there will be a mechanism to purchase a serial for 20.00.

You can also use Content Browser 1.1 with no serial # or restrictions.

The reason for the Xs in the older version of XDCAM Browser is that the metadata structure of the F3's .mp4 file wrapper was updated, and you need a newer version of software to read these files. You can use XDCAM Browser 2.6 or Content Browser 1.1, both of which are free, or you can do the free 2.0 version. If the latter is not working for you, please let me know the details.

The Browser and Transfer apps can co-exist on the same machine without conflict.

Ian,

Is this with the free download version (where we email you a serial #)? Yes- I had no trouble with the password or installing the program with the provided serial # today.

The problem is after I open the program I get the interface on the right side of the screen and then the spinning beach ball.

I also had the same problem with Content Browser 1.1 (installs no problem and opens but hangs up immediately) which I also tried to install today when 2.0 would not work.

XDcam transfer is working fine.

Hoping there is a file that is corrupt or a way to totally clean out all existing files and start again

I used the uninstaller to remove Content Browser 1.1 and 2.0

This is kinda odd- I think I am getting a kernal panic after the app opens.

Does a screen pop up telling you in several languages that you need to restart? I have it running here on a 10.8.2 Retina and it installed and runs fine (albeit on a more or less factory install of the OS and very little else on the machine). Can you try looking in Console at the system log to see what might have happened on launch or where the conflict might lie? If you want to send it to me offline, feel free. ian dot cook at am dot sony dot com.

Ive just had to re-install my mbp, installing mavericks 10.9.1 and ire-nstalling apps etc from my time capsule.
I have needed to add many serial numbers and drivers which did not install.

I have installed MC7 and Adobe CC from scratch.
as well as latest XDCAM drivers ( and SxS but I cannot test this)

I can see my U2 (updated to latest V2.320 firmware) on my desktop.
Avid AMA can access it,
as does XDCAM transfer in my old copy of FCP7

I have just installed Content Browser 2.2 ( V2.1 worked before my upgrades, I tried this and it also crashed "application not responding at start up)
I put in my serial number which was accepted.

However when I try to run CB I get the right hand browser window, and an immediate spinning beach ball ( with and without an XDCAM disc inserted.) The application is "not responding" and has to be force quitted.

Have you got an idea what I may have "forgot"

Thanks Steve

2.2 does not officially support Mavericks yet-- were you running Lion or ML prior to the upgrade?

Yes I was ML
Strange that "old" xdcam transfer works!

It is very confusing loading all the xdcam software for avid, FCP, and adobe, as well as drivers, on the mac

Thanks for your quick reply.

Have you ever stopped to calculate how many drivers are required to simply plug a Sony PMW 200 into a Mac and transfer footage? Has it ever occurred to anyone at Sony that perhaps a camera that simply plugs in and allows you to drop footage onto a desktop or into a NLE without having to search the Internet far and wide for a dozen different drivers might be a more intelligent approach? Is both incredibly frustrating and totally unnecessary to have to spend hours on message boards forums and Sony's ridiculously disorganized site to figure out how to simply plug my camera into my computer and bring footage into premiere. This should be the single easiest step in the process, yet it is the most convoluted cluster ..

If you invented peanut butter and your neighbor invented jelly, why would you give your peanut butter to his customers?

It is a marketing deal that you will hate but have to deal with.

Good Luck

Sorry you had such a difficult time.

You really only need one driver. If you are using UDF mode you should have the UDF driver. Nothing else is required for transferring files from the camera. There are some plugins for the editors but these pretty well documented and available on our site or Avid's.
