How to white balance correctly
on Nov 26, 2012 at 1:43:14 pm

We are currently testing a Sony PMW-200 in front of a green screen. We wish to shoot full-bodied persons. We have a grey (18%) and white card - 8x6". I have a few questions:

1. Which card should I be using?

2. The card is small. Where should the subject be holding the card - face height?

3. Should be be zooming into this card so that it fills the whole LED and then do our ATW?

4. Any tips regarding white balancing and green screens?

Many thanks for your feedback.

Use a white card. Hold it up in the key light. Zoom all the way in and roll a bit out of focus and then white balance. We light the green screen at 50 IRE.

Thanks for your tip Bob. May I ask what 50 IRE is?

Also, I need to do some filming outside (sporting event in snow - bright sunshine). How do I best white balance such a shooting?
