Connecting XDcam EX1 to Mark 2 in FCP7

Team, I am trying to intercut footage between a Sony XD cam Ex1 and a Canon Mark 2.

Both where filmed on 24 Frames Per Second at 1920x1080i (16:9)

The only difference that I can see is that when I go under settings on the XD cam timeline, it says that the compression for the Sony XD Cam E1 is: XD Cam EX 1080P24 (35mb/s VBR)
and the Mark 2 has a compresser of H264.

I would like to intercut both sets of footage into one timeline. If I take both sets of footage into compresser, which Codec should I use to unify the footage and bring back into the same timeline?

I was thinking Pro Res would be good? Also..the client would like to take this footage to the BBC..my question..if I run all this through Pro Res..will it still be good enough for the BBC in the end?

Not the answer you're looking for but in FCPX with Sony's plugin you'd be able to import the BPAV directly. H.264 from Canon also imports.

If you're locked into using FCP7 then converting to Apple ProRes is probably your best bet for performance in the timeline.
