Acquisition requirements for the networks?

Just wondering what formats you are shooting in for network shows?

I know many deliverables are in 1080i. What about field shooting?

Thanks.

Depends entirely on the network. In general 1080/24p is a good starting point for your master. It's easy to derive just about everything else from 1080p down from that.

I agree on 1080. I think I will go with 30p since that would be easy to convert to 1080i. Thanks.

I'd highly recommend against that- 30p doesn't convert to anything well. It works ok in a 60i timeline but is terrible for conversions to PAL based framerates like 50i,25p and of course 24p. It's about the least flexible format you can choose as a master unless you are absolutely certain your deliverables will be 60i or 30p 100% of the time...

Thanks for the feedback. Deliverables will be 1080i. No PAL.

FYI. This is info from one of my other TV users groups.

User 1: "The CBS Sunday Morning show requires 30p."
"I also was required to shoot 30p for PBS News Hour a couple of months ago."

"Yesterday I did a shoot for CNN en EspaƱol's news magazine show and they asked me to shoot it in 30p."

"I used to change my camera setting back and forth a lot more between 60i and 30p...but that stopped almost six months ago. Now I shoot everything in 30p unless otherwise requested. It's one of my first questions when booking a shoot but the result so far is "leave it in 30p"

User 2: "My workflow is the same. Always have camera set at 30p and only change when the client request it at the beginning of the shoot."

"Sometimes when I shoot sports or news they want 60i."
