Sony EX1 eyepiece viewfinder broken
on Nov 18, 2011 at 1:01:56 pm

since yesterday the viewfinder (eyepiece) of my EX1 just shows white. No more picture any more, although the LCD display of the cam works fine.
I guess the eyepiece is just broken. Has anyone an idea of this issue? Or knows how to repair it / what repair might cost?

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I got to replace one of those when a PA tipped the camera off the top of the tripod once. It's a hoot but definitely a self-repair if you have any technical proficiency. I'd suggest opening that up and checking the connection of the tiny little ribbon cable that leads to the LCD first. Here's a link to the exploded diagram. If the little LCD unit is bad, that's still only a $154 on the parts list.

In our case, the entire rear viewfinder cabinet was broken/bent, so I got to replace pieces going all the way to the hinge on the frame. It's not an overwhelming job if you've got some patience and really little screwdrivers!
