Is this XDCam or some other format?
on Nov 2, 2011 at 5:49:37 pm

I have been presented with footage recorded to hard drive that is set up in the following format:

Does anyone recognize this? MPEG Streamclip doesn't know what to do with the .mp4 and Squeeze 7 will allow me to look at it, but won't allow me to play it.
I was told these are xdcam files, but I'm not so sure or something's missing.
XDCam Clip Browser sure doesn't recognize it.
Thanks,
Michael Moser

Have you tried importing the .mp4 directly?
That's certainly not a complete BPAV.

When you say "directly" do you mean using FCP Log and Transfer?
I just tried it and it says that it is a file structure with "unsupported media."

Oh well, that was a good thought...I think I need to find the driver that recognizes that media whatever it is.
Squeeze 7 does give me pictures...I suspect I could use that to turn it into a .mov file of some sort, but some of these files are big and overwhelm the program. I haven't tried Compressor yet...

It's XDCAM EX. If you don't have the complete directory structure you can use Clip Browser or XDCAM Browser to view the files and rebuild the card image.

Thanks Ian...I'll give it a try...
Does this look like an incomplete folder structure?

XDCam Transfer seems to do the trick...
I'm able to point it to the folders and it will "rewrap" the video as a .mov file on the target drive I have designated in the import tab of the preferences...I haven't found audio, yet, but that may have to do with the individual recordings.

XDCam Browser doesn't seem to do anything with these clips, but that may have something to do with my lack of understanding the program..I find it hard to get my head around.
Thanks Ian,
Mike
