Is this a P-2 card configuration or something else in the xdcam world
on Aug 8, 2011 at 8:36:33 pm

I have a bunch of files in folders I received from the field that look like the inside of a BPAV or XDCam file, but I can't translate them to pictures.
The files are within a folders with names such as: "354_0024_01"
and inside the folders are:
354_0024_01.MP4
354_0024_01.SMI
354_0024_01I01.PPN
354_0024_01M01.XML
354_0024_01R01.BIM

Is this a P-2 file structure or another flavor of XDCam?

Thanks,
Michael

BPAV XDCAM EX.

[Michael Moser] "but I can't translate them to pictures."

XDCAM Transfer 2.12 on Mac.
ClipBrowser 2.6 on Windows wrap MXF for NLEs.

You need to have the codec installed of course. I'm not sure what problem your having because "can't translate" doesn't indicate what you have tried or what you have installed.

I have Clip Browser 2.6, but what I was trying to do was log and transfer it within FCP 7.0.3. Not sure whether the FCP plugin is the latest, but I believe it is. I don't have access to the footage now...I'll try again tomorrow. It doesn't have the same stuff a BPAV file has in it, like the CLPR file, etc. Interestingly it does say EX-1 on the outside folder along with other info...

[Michael Moser] "It doesn't have the same stuff a BPAV file has in it,"

Ugh!

You may need to use the .mp4 and create new BPAV folders.
You can import the orphaned .mp4 into XDCAM Transfer. You can create destination destination folder in the 2nd window lower left and drag the MP4s there. Within that folder will be the new BPAV.

Thanks...I think I've found my workflow....
XDCam Transfer (v2.12.0) will turn the .mp4 file into a Quicktime file which is importable to the FCP browser.
I guess that's what you were talking about...I have to do this to each of the many files...

The inspector in Quicktime Player defines these files as XDCam EX.
Is that because XDCam transfer has rewrapped these as XDCam files or did they originate that way?
Are the above file structure that of an XDCam disk?
Mike

They are wrapped to .mov
There is no transcoding. They are still XDCAM EX codec.
You've lost the original metadata.
You can create new BPAV folders if you like but they still won't have the original metadata because that relationship was apparently damaged.

Yeah, well the pics and sound are the most important in this case and I'll be able to pick and choose the files I will use.
Thanks again for your help.

As long as the .mp4 are OK. you're good to go.
