XDCAM EXPORT FC 4 Gig Limit
on Mar 20, 2011 at 2:16:03 am

I'm exporting my XDCAM EX sequence in final cut using Sony's XDCam exporter. At that point I use Sony XDCAM software to import the MP4 file created from FC. After importing I can see the correct BPAV structure on my computer. The problem is the file size of the MP4 file exceeds 4Gig. The camera can't handle files that size. Does anyone have any suggests of how to divide the file into smaller files like the camera does?

Thanks

You have to put the EX QT clips on an an FC sequence.
The length of the sequence must be less than 14 minutes so the resulting MP4 will be less than 4 GBs.
If your movie is long, you have to chop it in 14 minutes sequences.

Thanks for the info. Since the camera uses the Fat 32 file system I was afraid it had a 4Gig files size limit. Guess I need to keep my sequences under 14 minutes.

If you have sequences that are going to go over 4 GB you can divide them into subclips first. As long as your in/out points are correct the files will play seamlessly on an ex deck/camcorder.

Hi Ian,
I've never had the need to do this, but: Is possible to make 4 under 4GBs MP4, then build and BPAV with those (Clip Browser) and load them to the SxS card?

Yes, absolutely. In CB, file->import the .mp4s. You can do this to a folder on your system and a new BPAV will be created, or you can import into an existing BPAV.

Thanks for the info Ian.
Obviously the "4 GBs limit" is a media format issue, but shouldn't affects Clip Browser.
Best,

Thanks, Subclips sound like the answer.
