32GB SDHC cards that work? - SanDisk Extreme 30MB/s Edition?
on Mar 3, 2011 at 5:15:15 pm

Hello guys,

Well, it seems the cheaper 32gb SD cards do not work without errors, I have tried class 10 Fuji and Transcend.

I have searched this forum but cant find a thread which lists 32gb cards that DO work without a problem, so thought I should start one.

Does anyone know if this card works without a problem:

SanDisk Extreme 30MB/s Edition - 32GB - Class10

Please name cards you know work for long recordings (90min plus)
Thanks!
Mark

Hmm, I have been using a 32 gig Transend card for several months with no problem. I have run it for 2 hr. straight through and cranked to 46 fps with no problem. Over 46 and it spat out an error.

wow, bizarre, I had bought the 32gb transcends, class 10, and they would not work beyond 27 or 13 minutes at a go.

What class disks, what model etc?

I'd like to point out that none of our Sony SxS cards have had such errors. In my case, that is worth the price. :)

mate, Id like to point out that i was not asking about sxs and how reliable people find them. I want to buy 32 gb SD cards that work as reliably as the 8gb SD cards I have already.

I am using class 6. It has a red stripe across it. I have heard that some work fine and others don't. I am also still using the original firmware on my EX-3. I have read that upgrading the firmware makes more cards work but I have not done that yet.

Tx Ron,
I have returned mine, they did not have a red stripe across them... blue sticks, with blue sticker with rainbow and green stripe where it says LOCK... same as my 8gb Transcends which work fine!

I am still on the original firmware. I don't remember what number it is. I bought the camera in Feb. or 09.

Hi Ron

[Ron Pestes] "I am still on the original firmware. I don't remember what number it is. I bought the camera in Feb. or 09."

I have just upgraded my camera to 1.25, it's pretty easy to do, there is a vimeo video explaining (at an incredibly tediously slow pace) how to do it.

We will see, I have just bought another Transcend, this time it is ORANGE and we will see if the different firmware and different memory stick make a difference!

Thanks for the input, I will report back.
Cheers,
Mark

First, is your firmware updated? Are you using the EX-1 or EX-1r?

I had issues with the Transcends before updating my firmware. Non after.

I also have a 32G SxS. It' proven it's worth, even after having a battery go dead during a long 1 1/2 recording session. No loss of data.

Hi Brent,
Tx for the response, I updated the firmware a couple of years ago, am not sure if it is 1.1 or 1.2, and do not know how to check... do you?

I have the EX-1

My Transcend 8gb have been flawless, I NEVER use my two 8gb sxs sticks anymore, could not bother really... and would not like to give Sony an insane amount of money for a memory stick.

Tx again,
Mark.

Hi guys,
My camera has firmware version 1.14_0543

So AFAIK should be fine with 32gb cards, no?

Mark, I just went through the update recently. The latest version is 1.25.

See here for instructions on finding the version in your camera: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/142/870911#870925

See here for my update experience, as well as arguments for not doing it yourself; http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/142/873861#873861

With respect to the OP, I've successfully used a 32gb SanDisk Extreme class 10 card and Hoodman Raw SxS adapter without issues. Caviat; I haven't used it a lot; actually have not filled the card yet or over-cranked with it.
