Converting S-Video to HD/SDI & Scaling It to Widescreen

I know this may be something that simply is not doable aside from using something like a Matrox I/O box of some kind, but when I have to record from the various endoscopic cameras I have encountered in the many surgical suites around the country I have shot at, not all of these cameras are updated to the latest HD technology, but many are still SD, so taking the signal from the S-video output is all that is available. I'd like to somehow take this signal and somehow record it to my Sony PMW-EX30 through the HD/SDI input. Is there such a means of simple or not so simple conversion? I'm tiered of carrying my DSR-50 around everywhere when I don't use it that much anymore. I have a Geffen DVI to HD/SDI Converter Scaler that I can put into the configuration as well. Is there something out there that would scale the signal to widescreen? I know very well one cannot increase the resolution of that picture, but what I do now is take a DVCam recording and composite it with my "outside-the-wound" package, my EX3 and EX1 in FCP. I am just trying to abandon DVCam altogether if I can and carry a smaller deck with me.

You may need to provide more details. If your source is SD and 4x3 generally blowing it up and cropping to 16x9 might not be desirable if you need the info you're cropping. Often times people will put 4X3 in a 16x9 frame with a background composited. You'll even see this on some HD TV channels when broadcasting 4x3 material.

The D10AD may do the trick, I see. I realize I am taking a 4x3 shot into the PMW-EX30 and it will likely record with an oval, stretched scope view instead of a round scope view, as it would in widescreen, but then I just simply take it into FCP and rescale it there with the black background. It would be convenient to take the 4x3 right there and put it over a widescreen background, but not essential, unless of course it was a live shoot. But the right switcher would take care of that one. Most of what I shoot is not live, and I can re-scale the footage later. Thanks!
