I hope it's not inappropriate to post this, since it's very helpful. I had to replace some parts in our flip-out but not the LCD panel itself. It was far easier to work on than replacing the rear EVF, which I did a couple of weeks ago.
If you do wrangle it yourself, that's a good time to make sure that all the little screws holding the various pieces of the flip-out unit are tight. If they are not, the bezel can become fatigued and snap inside, giving you a floppy flipper :) That happened to us.
