XDcam Transfer 2.12 can't save changes to an imported FOLDER
on Apr 10, 2010 at 4:40:33 pm

Hey,
I updated everything on my Snow Leopard System.
And everything is finally working fine!

But one things still doesn't want to work.
I can save changes (like Clip - Comment) directly to the disc through the PDW-U1 (I get the black dot).
But when I copy/save the disc in a folder on my HDD, and add it to XDcam Transfer, I can't save changes. I got the white circle, which in the manual says "The changes cannot be saved to the source (because the source is offline, read-only, or unavailable for some other reasons)"
What could went wrong?
I also found in the manual "This command cannot be executed for archive folders and folders with the same subfolder structure as XDCAM EX or SxS memory cards sources."
Is maybe that the answer?

Thanks for you help.
Kind regards
Maria

I thought this had always been the case as far as folder copies of professional discs were concerned.

Oddly enough, and contrary to what the manual seems to be saying in your quote, the Save Changes command works for folder copies of SxS cards. I don't know why we can do it for one and not the other.

If there is no way that you could add your comments before copying the disc to the hard drive then the only solution I can see would be to write (or find someone who can write) an Applescript to save and retrieve your logging for you.

[Daniel Wright] "I thought this had always been the case as far as folder copies of professional discs were concerned."

Yes, I think so.

[Daniel Wright] "Oddly enough, and contrary to what the manual seems to be saying in your quote, the Save Changes command works for folder copies of SxS cards. I don't know why we can do it for one and not the other."

I think the reason might be that Professional Discs keep the logging metadata embedded in the MXF files in sync with the logging metadata XML file automatically; XDCAM Transfer can't do this itself with folder copies. On SxS cards or folder copies of them, only the XML file needs to be updated.

[Daniel Wright] "If there is no way that you could add your comments before copying the disc to the hard drive then the only solution I can see would be to write (or find someone who can write) an Applescript to save and retrieve your logging for you."

That depends on what you want to do with the logging info - if Maria just needs to be able to reload it back into XDCAM Transfer, that's a good suggestion. The attached scripts might help as a start.

Cheers,
Rob

Nice one, Robert. I didn't realise you could make subclips.

Being able to save your markup is a feature that has been on my wish list for a while. Up until now, I have been saving XDCAM Transfer's database for each project as a workaround, but your scripts should provide a better solution. I'll see how I get on with them.

Where did you find xdcam transfer tool 2.12 for snow leopard? I've been looking everywhere but haven't seen it yet. I was told by a Sony Rep that it would be availabe the week of NAB.
