ex1r footage overexposed when put into fcp
on Dec 14, 2009 at 11:53:04 pm

hey guys,

i just got an ex1r and have filled up a 16 gb card, today i transferred all the clips into fcp and noticed that what looks perfect in camera is overexposed in fcp. Im wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem and whether its the camera or fcp? any ideas on what to do?

Thanks,

-Scott

Were you using auto iris? My EX-1 is a little hot when using the default setting. I have my auto iris dialed down 1/2 stop.

I noticed the same thing with my EX-3, I have since tried to match the viewfinder (contrast and brightness) to how it looks on the computer when imported. Not exactly science but at least ill be in the ball park.

Yes, try and match your monitor brightness as it is dark out of the box and will give you false readings. Also, turn on your histogram or zebra bars. This should get you extremely close on exposure.

You need to calibrate the flip out monitor and you also need to learn to use your Histogram, and Zebras.
You really should look into a monitor like this, and make sure to find the video on how to set it up.

I just purchased this 7" Marshall and it is great.

Good Luck

And if you want "Broadcast Legal" out of the camera, shot with Gamma 2 (Standard or Cine).
