[jim stamos] "he panasonic cams have always had a good filmlook when shot in 24p. sony has not."

So with a declarative statement like that, I guess the Sony CineAlta line of cameras don't exist and there's been no major productions with the Sony F23.

In 2000 Star Wars Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones was shot with the Sony HDW-F900

And there's the F35 now.

im talking about the recent handhelds, namely the z1 forward, ive heard the ex1 and ex3 arent as good as the panasonics, even the dvx100 has had some features in 24p that looked good. i know the big boy sonys are good with 24p.

The Z1U is an interlace only sensor and Sony tried something that was not true 24p.

Their next camera V1U is a true progressive sensor (3-1/4 cmos) used in there HDV lineup, Sony's HDV spec at that time was 1080 60i to tape, and they featured 24p with 3:2 pulldown added so it would play properly with any of there existing (tape based) HDV equipment. At this point in time Sony's 24p was exactly like Panasonic.

To answer your question the EX is part of Sony's Cine Alta series and it creates the same 24p as the big boys.

Good Luck

Hi Jim,

I just shot with the EX1 and, at least looking at the footage back on the LCD, got the best "film look" I've ever seen! No jittering, or other "video" artifacts. And BTW I've shot a lot of film!

Here's my settings for a true film look:

1080/24p
Shutter Angle @ 180 degrees
Picture Profile Gamma set to Cine2
Gain @ -3dB or 0dB

Best,

Dave J

And many shows that used the F900 or F23 use the EX1 or EX3 as B cameras to shoot in tight locations,

..and if instead of recording in the SxS card you record in Michael's nano-Flash...
BTW, tell the one who told you that about the EX-1/3 to update him self a little bit.
