where do I get xdcam transfer software?
on Nov 10, 2009 at 1:27:40 am

I've searched and searched on Sony's website...I can't find a download for the Sony XDCAM transfer software.

I got the file XDCAM Transfer.app from a friend...so I've been running that, but don't I need to install it? I'm very new to mac's, I don't understand how this "app" thing works! Also, I'd like to get it for another machine that we may be ingesting some EX footage.

Any ideas? Thanks!

-Jason

Thanks...

I actually had found this link, but was confused...maybe I'm missing something (I don't shoot XDCAM, but I've needed to ingest content from cards)

The version seems to count up...(current being 2.10.0), but there is notation after the software name...I initially thought these were codecs...I assumed that I was downloading the XDCAM codecs to play back?

Is it appropriate to get v2.10.0? I'm using Leopard with Final Cut Studio 3.

Thanks for the help.

What are you actually doing? You need a driver for the SxS cards too, if you are working with a MBP and the express 34 slot.

In addition to the XDCAM transfer.app file I copied from my friend, I got a DMG installer for the SxS, so that is working...

I am working with the EX cards in a MBP...but also will be (eventually) working with the discs on my tower...just wanted to get the software on my machines *correctly* :)

And, I forgot to mention...that when I load the software, I get an error saying that the MPB is missing a "FAM driver". So I assume that the full installer will take care of that issue? I've researched and found that that is needed when connecting XDCAM via firewire...so it's not even an issue currently.

this link was very helpful. Thank you
https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/sony-software-model-PDZKP1.aspx

I did get one component that wasn't available when I installed it:
-the XDCAM Driver Software
Is there a link I can view to get that for my MAC OSX /FCP7

While trying to use the XDCAM Transfer App I also got this error:
Error Scanning Device...and list of codes that went with it.

The Video Footage plays just fine in QT and Content Browser..but all digital in FCP7...both in the viewer and TL

any thoughts as it why? Is there a FCP7 setting I need to change?
thanks for your help.

Sony hires professional web designers who work under usability designers to make sure it is impossible for anyone to find anything on their website. My bet is you're looking at the USA site. I think Rubik designed it after he finished with the Rubik's Cube.

http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/
Look at Download . . . and you won't see it.
Click on View All in that frame
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/resource.downloads
and you'll see something cryptically called
NLE Editing and File Transfers
Click on that
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/resource.downloads.bbsccms-a...
and you'll see something written in Klingon
PDZ-KP1 Version 2.7
PDZ-KP1 is Klingon for Sony XDCAM File Transfer. The version number. 2.7 is also wrong.
Click on Click Here to Download Software.
It's very tiny to ensure no one over 40 can read it.
https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software.aspx?model=pdzkp1
You then find that PDZKP1 is described as
XDCAM Transfer Plug-In for Final Cut Pro (MAC). To the left of that you'll note that the Product Category is
Videotape Recorders
This is to let you know that you are downloading the Videotape Recorder for your tapeless camera.
Click on the Klingon PDZKP1 and it takes you to
https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software-model-PDZKP1.aspx
You'll see Kit Part Numbers which lets you know that there as many types of PDZP1 in Klingon as there are words for snow in Eskimo
Look for Kit Part Number FPDZKP1A2
The Kit Description will be
XDCAM XFER V2.10.0 XDCAMHD422
Which may well be a later version than 2.7 previously mentioned unless Klingon uses a different numbering system than found on most places on this planet.
Note how the Description includes XDCAMHD422 which is not XDCAMEX420 to discourage download if you've actually gotten this far.
Click on Download Now Free of Charge next to the above Kit Description and you will have the current version of XDCAM Transfer Software for Final Cut Pro and you don't even have to use it as a plugin even though they called it that a few pages back.

Of course if you have Snow Leopard you will likely discover a Thumbnail Cache bug which Sony neglects to mention and has not yet provided an update to fix.

Only people who were very good at those old computer puzzle solving adventure games like MYST can find Sony XDCAM Transfer 2.10.

You are now a member of a very small and select group who know were to find the current version of Sony XDCAM Transfer on the USA site. You can not tell anyone unless they know the secret Klingon password.

Hello,

I'm new to these forums and I hope resurrecting this old thread isn't bad form but I have a related question.

What I want to know is: this SONY XDcam Transfer Software (once you've found it) is often a 'Transfer Plug-In for Final Cut Pro (MAC)'.

Do you need this software when transferring from a card reader to a PC? Is anything else required?

Trying to open the reader without any software installs gives the option to 'format drive' which seems obviously undesirable.

I know this is a very basic question but any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Shamini

For Windows PC you need Sony ClipBrowser. The other stuff is Mac/FCP specific.
There will be a new utility coming from Sony as soon as the end of this month though, replacing ClipBrowser I believe.

Aah, ok. Most forums I found have been talking about Macs and FCP so I wasn't sure if there was a difference. Thanks Craig!

Craig Seeman really nailed that one! His post is the best ever written and still to this day. Incredible it's still true by the word.

[pius gyang] "want to find transfer drivers for xdcam ex"

Copy the link below into your browser's URL address window:

http://support.sonybiz.ca/esupport/Navigation.do?filetype=Software

At the top of the page type this into the search field:

driver Ver. 1.0.52020

The search will take you to a page that has two (2) files for download. Choose the second one that looks like this:

SxS Device driver Ver. 1.0.52020 for Mac (Oct 2010)
SxS_driver_V1.0.52020_forMac.zip

Re: where do I get xdcam transfer software?

Hi everyone,

I'm terribly confused. I have a Sony XDCAM PXW-X70 and am successfully editing in Premiere. Glad I made the switch from FCP7, since Premiere can ingest anything! But meanwhile, I need to give some raw footage I shot to another person editing with FCP7. I don't have the files on the card anymore, they are archived on my hard drive, under the file structure top/PRIVATE/XDROOT/Clip.

I need to figure out how these can be imported into FCP7. I installed the XDCAM EX Log and Transfer Plugin 1.2, but no luck.

BTW, the clip are 2K if that makes any difference, recorded at 50mp/s.

Hope someone can help. I am running on OS 10.9.4.

Debbie

Hi!
Did you find the answer anywhere? I'm having the same problem. But I am editing on FCPX.
My problem is not even to bring the footage inside FCPX, it's because I have to send the footage to a colleague , renamed and tagged and the way it is showed on the SD card is not working when I rename because its under Private - XDROOT - clip.
Let me know ,
Thanks
