The 350 looks very interesting. Much better form factor, 2/3" sensors, and what promises to be a superb viewfinder. I'm skeptical of this kit lens though. At it's focal length, is doesn't go very wide (8mm for 2/3") and looks suspiciously like it's derived from the EX lenses. Those lenses are good for what they are, but have lousy servo zoom functionality and truly terrible macro implementation. One can always put a real lens on there though.

I've used the camera and I can tell you the quality of the lens is better than the EX lenses, Servo controls felt good.

Considering the cost of the camera it's a great utility lens that you can swap out when you need to

From this video the lens is just $1500 US dollars more than the body only kit. I think this is poor marketing, and gives the wrong impression of its quality before the masses get to put their hands on it.

If my memory serves me correct the initial MSRP price on Sony adds had the EX3 somewhere around $13990.00 and the PMW-350 with lens is priced now @ $22000.00.

My guess is that it will discount to under $16k, but this is wishful thinking.

Ultimately the PMW-350 delivers a better sensor and 4 channels of audio.

why is the 350 so BIG... call me no-pro, but why make a tapeless or diskless camera with the same OLD big form factor .... I was expecting a shoulder mount more on the JVC style or something NEW and NOT the same BIG OLD super camera body.... maybe I have to test the machine more closer.....

kind regards

I would have liked to see a 50mbit 4:2:2 mode on the 350. I would have emptied my savings account for that.

You could just add a Nano flash and get 160mb!

I'm sure the Nano would be much better and less expensive than having Sony involved.
It does seem odd that Sony didn't up the bit rate on the PMW-350

Good Luck

If they offered the higher bitrate, they'd probably eat into the market for the 700. I'm curious to know if any of you use the Nanoflash and what you think of it. I've always been less than totally happy with the EX codec, especially when used for effects and grading. Noise, in particular is an issue. Of course, at 35mbps it is pretty amazing.

Also, does anyone have experience comparing EX to EX 422?

The Nano is worth every penny, I'll be using it again today on green screen. It makes a huge difference using the Nano.

Good Luck

We captured directly from the HDSDI tap on the EX-3 into the HDSDI input of a KONA LHE on a recent greenscreen shoot. The results of the keys are dramatically better than using 35MBPS video.

I'm sure there would have been a chorus of very angry PDW 700 and 800 owners had Sony upped the bitrate on the PMW350 to 50 MBPS. Sony is "segmenting" the market very nicely and what they are doing makes a lot of sense.

When I had the PMW-350 I did do some shots with the it and the NanoFlash and it was simply stunning. Convergent Design have some clips on their site that I shot with the 350 and NanoFlash for download.
