EX-1 footage - can I somehow edit on Windows Movie Maker?
on Sep 25, 2009 at 2:56:11 pm

Hello people,

I was wondering if you could help me out with another issue.

Is there a way to edit footage which was shot on the EX-1 and edit it on Windows Movie Maker? What do I have to do to the footage to edit with Movie Maker?

Thank you,

Benny!

Convert to WMV.

I can't imagine even using Windows Movie Maker for a rough cut though.

Is there a free software in which I can do this without stamping the software make on the converted footage? I have a free software but it stamps the name on the top left corner.

You have to buy the plugin from Main Concept. It's major expensive IMHO.

Maybe convert them to DV.avi first and then convert those in the Windows Media Encoder.

None of this keeps the time code so it doesn't do much good as a rough cut if that's what you're aiming for.

Just out of curiosity, did you buy the camera or was the footage given to you from the camera's owner? It would seem weird to spend $6000 on a camera but want to go the cheap route on software. One byproduct of the era of cheap audio-visual production equipment is the fact that many want it for nothing. I remember back when one needed an extremely expensive studio to produce video, maybe that's why I'm more willing to simply accept that there's a "cost of admission" to do things correctly in this business.

Yes, as I said, I can't see the point of using Windows Movie Maker. On Windows I'd consider getting Vegas or Premiere Pro if you don't want to go the Avid or Edius route.

On the Mac side I know of at least one person who edits EX regularly in iMovie. He's got FCP though. With FCP installed iMovie takes advantage of the codec so it'll work. Why edit in iMovie? He likes some of the easy FX in their so he can use them without have to do lots of compositing in FCP.

Windows Movie Maker is far more limited than iMovie though IMHO.

Try exporting your footage as DV AVI from Sony's Clip Browser.
Then import into Windows Movie Maker.
