Collective Storage

Just a poll to see what products everyone is using for collective storage.

What kind of SAN are you using?

What kind of network connection? (fiber, 10 gig, iscsi).

How are you using it? (block level access? push/pull?)

Are you using a MAM system? (media asset management). If so, what kind?

Are you using offline storage? Tape? DVD's? Other?

Like most others, we are several months down the road with a MAM (CatDV) using a SAN (3TB) and Offline storage (Sony Petasite). Overall, we are pleased with our ability to manage and archive our footage, but are looking to upgrade our network and SAN. As we are currently entering yet another phase of research for the "best" solutions out there, we are hoping find out how others are approaching this task.

We are a rather small, privately owned broadcast facility that serves 5 markets throughout the southeastern USA and generate around 300 gig a month of media. This has become much more challenging with the advent of tapeless technology (XDCAM) in terms of IT savy required to keep up with all of this stuff. Just wondered how others were coping (from a strict hardware/software approach). It seems resources for such things are scarce in the world of traditional TV production. Relying solely on vendors has proven problematic, as most of our long time TV product vendors haven't much of a clue when it comes to setting up such things.

Hoped this might be a timely discussion, as we're all coming up to 4th quarter and next years budgets are being discussed.
