Adaptimax Plus Nikon to Sony EX3 released.

Hi all,
we have just released the "Adaptimax Plus" Nikon to Sony EX3 adaptor. The Adaptimax Plus allows you to use Nikon DX and G Series lenses on your EX3. It is virtually identical to the original Adaptimax, but we have incorporated a small solid brass thumbscrew to open and close the aperture of the DX and G lenses by utilising the small lever on the Nikon lens. It works a treat.

The Adaptimax gives a magnification factor of X5.4, so a 200mm Nikon will turn into a 1080mm telephoto, or a 300mm into a 1620mm. So if you are shooting wildlife or need a very long lens, this is a very cheap and high quality solution to get that shot. It also gives superb macro as well.

There's a lot more info with photos and test footage, plus an independent review from IOV (UK) on the website.

Does your adaptor let us use fish-eye or super wide Nikon lenses on the EX3 with good results (like SLRs) ??? or is it different because of the magnification factor ??

Kind regards

Hi Enrique, if you put a 17mm Nikon on the Adaptimax, it would be a 92mm lens so there is no benefit at all. For wide lenses use the stock EX3 lens and a wide angle convertor, or a 35mm adaptor like the Brevis of Letus with wide angle lenses.

For any length over the stock lens the Adaptimax is superb. Where a 35mm adaptor like the Letus gives like for like, (so if you put on a 50mm lens that's what you get), the Nikon lens on an Adaptimax only uses the middle part of the projected image, that is "magnified" by X5.4 to give telephoto. So if you are shooting an object at distance, or wildlife, you can get that closeup shot impossible with the stock Sony lens or a 35mm adaptor like the Letus.

And if you are shooting macro, a 105mm 2.8mm Nikon macro (micro)gives really excellent closeups. So basically Adaptimax for Macro and Telephoto, stock EX3 lens or 35mm adaptor for everything in between.

Hope that helps.

Any plans on offering a PL mount to the lineup? I'm interested in using 16mm Zeiss lens with my EX3.

It's on the horizon Michael but we have other things on the map before we get there. The original Adaptimax and the Plus have been in such high demand its taken up almost 100% use of our CNC.

Next up is the Canon EF version to EX3 and Nikon to Z7U, and then we are are hopefully working on an EX3 baseplate with an addon over the shoulder counter-weight (mid-late summer by the time we get there)

Our aim is to make very high quality camera adaptors and accessories at prices that people can afford to buy without thinking about it for a week or three.

Hope that helps.

hey Steve,

i haven't used either the dx or g lenses, but a quick look online makes me wonder if the conversion factor can be the same for both. aren't the dx lenses built for a smaller sensor?

thanks,

Michael

We did a test to compare a standard 35mm Nikon Lens with a DX Nikon 18-70mm set at 35mm. The results showed that the magnification was actually almost identical.

Take a look at this clip shot to see the difference. As the DX lens is consumer it is difficult to know if the lens lengths printed on the lens are accurate.

Any chance of coming out with a 2 x extender for the factory fujinon lense on the EX3? I understand the tricky part is the hot shoe feature of the lense.

Hi John, it is easier said than done. The connectors would be difficult to source so would probably have to be custom made, on top of any top quality glass.

We have had a few requests for the ACM-21 adaptor and would have similar problems to overcome there as well. Not that we are saying no.

There's not enough hours in the day!
