IR question
on Apr 29, 2009 at 1:35:32 am

can anyone recommend a good hot mirror to use to stop the ex3 from exhibiting a cranberry brown color on certain blacks (usually cloth) colors.

i had the same IR problem years ago when i bought a sony dsr-200 and can remember the remedy.

thanks in advance,

Dano

I use the that 77E 486 filter as well and it seems to work fine. To add further complexity to this topic, you might check out Art Adams efforts to explore this at:

He concludes that the "hot mirror" filters might not be the best choice with this camera.

I agree wholeheartedly with Kerry. If you are using a mattebox, that filter is called the Schneider Tru-cut 680. Since it's a 'hot mirror', it must be the first filter light hits. You will have some green vignetting at wide angle (15mm and wider) but it's not too noticeable unless you're shooting in a room with light walls. It works beautifully to correct for the IR contamination.

cheers
