Using XDCAM EX Quicktimes on non-FCP machines?
on Feb 7, 2008 at 5:25:23 pm

We have a couple Final Cut Studio workstations that ingest and play XDCAM EX files just fine. But when we move these Quicktimes to other workstations for After Effects or Logic work, they only display a blank white frame. That usually means a codec is missing.

So I've copied all the codecs from the Final Cut Mac HD/Library/Quicktime folder. But still nothing shows up. Where is this sneaky Quicktime component hiding?

Other than the time consuming process of transcoding to ProRes 422 or Animation codec, what are my options to view native XDCAM Quicktimes on other machines? I don't have the budget to buy Final Cut or Flip4Mac's pricey MXF plug-in for every workstation.

Hi Navarro,

I had the same problem last night: Wanting to render (among others) XDcam materiaal. on an extra machine that has AfterEffects, but not FCP on it. I tried installing the XDcam transcode tool, didn't work. So I figured that it must be some QT component, tried copying the IMX component and HDV component, but no luck, any other ideas?

Media100/after-effects/Combustion/FCP/Flint/Flame/Inferno..
Thank heavens; there's a sign of progress here..

XDCAM EX codec is part of FCP 6.0.2

The alternative is to render to another codec that the other CPUs can play OR, when you first ingest, use the Sony Clip Browser and archive the original folder structure with the BPAV.
