Bryant Park Carousel - Rockefeller Center Skaters and Tree

Slo-mos are 720p60 slowed to 720p24. Other video is 1080p30 dropped into the 720p24 timeline in FCP (obviously not the right way to do things and it shows but it's interesting to see what happens when you do that). Shutter was off and no Picture Profiles were used. All video at Rockefeller center was handheld including to slo-mos of the skaters zoomed in. So yes, if you develop a good technique the camera is certainly ok in hand held situations.

The video is compressed with H264 mov at 1500kbps and clearly does not do the source justice but it'll give you an idea of the detail one might see in the source.

Great stuff... I went out New Years Day and shot some bald eagles and red shouldered hawks. It was my first day with the EX so I was shooting auto just to get used to it. The footage is in a word "AMAZING"... I don't have the time to post it right now, I'm swamped trying to finish up at my job before the new studio opens.

And thanks for your workflow input on my other thread.

Amazingly shallow DOF on the carousel. Great footage, and I loved the music track as well. Thanks !

Good stuff, Craig. Nice DOF footage and then there's that wonderful slo-mo. I haven't done that yet. Soon. I was a little disappointed that there was no Craig playing on the carousel while someone else pushed the record button.

I'm also in the middle of doing something similar for our local videographers' association meeting at the end of the month. My stuff will be scenery shots done at a local government park and will include as many consenting wild animals and (wild) meandering hikers as I can get in the frame.

[Don Greening] "I was a little disappointed that there was no Craig playing on the carousel while someone else pushed the record button. "

That remote that comes with camera is designed for ENG style use. Reporter controls while standing in front of the camera.

So now I have to test that out too. So I should aim the remote and hit record from a moving carousel. Sounds like an amusement park game for video professionals.

How do you know?

[Steve Wargo] "How do you know?"

Hey, you caught me guessing. But it was a good guess, because Craig 'fessed up.

Hi Craig,
What did you use to get the blurring effect on the fast motion carousel clip. Was that undercranking with a slow shutter speed or something else?

Best,
Randy

More specifically, this seems like to much blur for 1/32nd. Was this SLS? If so, do you remember how many frames? I am getting some nice effects from SLS (just started toying with it). Not quite sure about EX Slow Shutter. Strange results for me. In honesty, I am not quite sure when one would use it. Any thoughts?

From memory, I was shooting time lapse at 1080p30 with shutter off (1/30). I believe the rate was 1 frame every 1 second.
